Principal's Message

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a wonderful winter break and the batteries for both our students and staff have been recharged for the last bit of the 1st semester.
Year two in our new building has certainly been a smoother start compared to year one as we have established routines with the student body and the staff.  Despite a rough bout of illnesses in late November and December, our overall daily attendance has significantly improved as has our overall behavior.  Participation numbers in extracurricular activities has boomed.  Involvement in activities and success in academics go hand in hand so this is a huge plus.  Our band and choir recently had their Winter Concerts.  Both groups did a fantastic job!  The Coos Bay Schools Foundation awarded a number of our staff with grants in December that will help to enrich their programs, and right before we left for break we received a generous $5000 check from Advanced Health to assist at-risk youth.  Thank you to both groups for their continued support and generosity.

Good things are happening at MJHS and will continue to do so in 2023.  Four weeks remain until the semester ends.  Let’s continue to work together for a successful stretch run to the end of the first half of the school year.

Sincerely,
Mr. Montiel
